Store-bought puff pastry makes this minced beef and turnip recipe a fast, satisfying weeknight dinner. The savory filling combines seasoned ground beef with diced turnip, then gets wrapped in pastry and baked until golden and flaky. It's ready in around 30 minutes and requires minimal prep work.

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until translucent and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
Add the minced beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, around 5 minutes.
Stir in the diced turnip, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes until the turnip is tender.
Roll out the puff pastry into a large square. Cut into four smaller squares if necessary.
Place a generous spoonful of the beef and turnip mixture onto each square, folding the corners into the center to enclose the filling. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
Transfer pastries to a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
Notes
For a richer flavor, add a dash of Worcestershire sauce or some grated cheese into the filling.
For a vegetarian version, substitute minced beef with lentils or mushrooms.
