The Completo Italiano is a popular Chilean street food hot dog topped with avocado, tomato, and mayonnaise. This recipe adapts those same toppings onto a beef burger patty, keeping the flavor combination intact in a format that's easy to prepare at home in about 30 minutes.
Preheat the grill pan over medium-high heat. While it heats, divide the ground beef into 4 even portions and shape into 1/2 inch thick patties. Make a small divot in the middle of each to prevent puffing while cooking.
Brush olive oil over the preheated pan. Place patties in the pan and cook for about 3-5 minutes on each side, depending on desired doneness. Place a slice of cheese atop each patty during the last couple of minutes of cooking to allow melting.
Lightly toast the burger buns on the grill pan for about a minute or until golden.
In a mixing bowl, mash the avocados with lime juice, salt, and pepper until smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
Assemble each burger by spreading a layer of avocado mixture on the bottom bun, placing the cheesy patty atop, then adding a spoonful of diced tomatoes, and finishing with a drizzle of mayonnaise before sealing with the top bun.
Notes
For a spicier twist, add sliced jalapeños or chili flakes to the avocado mash.
You can substitute ground turkey for a leaner option or use whole-grain buns for added fiber.
