Big Mac Salad takes the core flavors of the classic burger — seasoned beef, pickles, cheese, and a tangy special sauce dressing — and serves them over fresh lettuce without the bun. It's a quick, low-carb dinner option that comes together in under 30 minutes. The homemade burger sauce is the key to getting the flavor right.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add lean ground beef, cooking until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Use a wooden spoon to break the beef into small crumbles. Once cooked, season with a pinch of salt and pepper, and remove from heat. Set aside to cool slightly.
While the beef is cooking, prepare the vegetables. On a cutting board, chop romaine lettuce, halve cherry tomatoes, dice pickles, and finely dice the sweet onions. Place all the vegetables into a large serving bowl.
In a small mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, white vinegar, sugar, onion powder, paprika, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir until smooth, adjusting seasoning to taste as needed.
Add the slightly cooled ground beef to the salad bowl with vegetables. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top, and drizzle with the prepared dressing. Toss everything gently to combine, ensuring the dressing evenly coats the ingredients.
Notes
Enhance the flavor by adding a dash of tabasco sauce to the dressing for a zesty kick.
For a low-carb option, replace the sugar in the dressing with a sugar substitute.
